In December 2024, Bisleri partnered with reCharkha to develop a sustainable New Year gifting solution for its distributors and employees.
The objective was to create a product that could:
-
Reinforce Bisleri’s sustainability commitments
-
Demonstrate circular economy principles in action
-
Deliver strong functional and brand value
-
Be produced and delivered within a short execution timeline
The project required the design and delivery of 1,500 customised diary covers within less than two months, while integrating:
-
Brand-aligned customisation
-
Co-branded visibility
-
Embedded sustainability communication
-
Centralised delivery coordination to Mumbai
The Journey from Concept to Creation
Rather than sourcing virgin materials, the project focused on recovering and repurposing Bisleri’s own post-consumer waste streams. Bisleri provided discarded label rolls from its operations, which were processed and transformed into durable textile applications.
reCharkha designed a customised diary cover solution that balanced functionality, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility ensuring the product would remain relevant and usable long after the gifting moment.
Circular Design & Material Innovation: Each diary cover incorporated fabric developed from Bisleri’s discarded bottle labels. Approximately 275 labels were recovered and repurposed per unit, converting low-value waste into durable material applications.
Recycled PET Integration: Recycled PET bottles were converted into warp yarns used during the weaving process, strengthening the material while extending the lifecycle of plastic waste through circular manufacturing.
Sustainable Material Choices: Natural cotton lining, customised to Bisleri’s brand palette, was incorporated to enhance durability and product quality while supporting responsible sourcing practices.
Responsible Branding Elements :Co-branded cloth labels were produced using recycled fabric, ensuring sustainability considerations extended to even the smallest product components.
Crafting Details
-
Upcycled Fabric: Each diary cover was made from Bisleri’s own discarded bottle wrappers. Approximately 275 labels were transformed per cover, giving waste a new life as durable fabric.
-
Cotton Lining: Natural cotton lining was selected to match Bisleri’s brand colors, ensuring comfort, durability, and sustainability.
-
Co-branded Cloth Labels: The branding labels used on each diary were crafted from recycled cloth, reinforcing the commitment to eco‑friendly materials and ensuring that every single component of the product carried a sustainability story.
-
Quality Accessories: Threads, fasteners, and finishing materials were chosen for durability, extending the lifecycle of the diaries.
Taking Sustainability Beyond the Product
-
Upcycling 4,12,500 Bisleri Labels: Discarded labels were transformed into durable fabric, extending the lifecycle of waste.
-
Recycling 1,500 PET Bottles: PET bottles were repurposed into warp yarns, strengthening the fabric while reducing plastic waste.
-
Generating 1,500 Livelihood Days: Tribal and rural artisans were engaged in the production process, creating income opportunities and sustaining traditional skills.
The Impact
This collaboration enabled Bisleri to extend its sustainability commitments into tangible product experience. The final diaries served not only as New Year gifts, but as a demonstration of circular economy principles in practice showing how waste can be reintroduced into the value chain through thoughtful design, responsible sourcing, and inclusive production systems.
By integrating environmental impact, artisan livelihoods, and functional design into a single product, the initiative created value across multiple dimensions of sustainability.
